This project was a 2016 club hits vibe; so includes production in House, Afro Beats and pop genres!
Recent underscoring from Riel’s design on Infinite theatre’s 2024 production of Dominoes at the crossroads, adapted from Kaie Kellough. This project included prerecorded composed sounds, live folly, and music from a record player on stage! These are some of the composed sounds.
This piece traveled between worlds, so there was usage of a variety of sounds, that were dreamlike and have a magical feel.
Recently Riel was a mentee in the Black theatre Workshop Artist in mentorship program (2023). For the showcase at the NAC she was the sound designer and musical director for excerpts from Tell by Deidre “d-Lishus” Walton. Gossip of the Trees was featured in this sound design as well as sung live.
Orestes’ Spiral is an example of Riel’s more story and lyric based work. Developed in Musical Stage Company’s 2021 NoteWorthy program, this piece is an adaption of an Orestes speech from (Greek Trilogy) The Oresteia. This piece looks at the moment after Orestes kills Clytemnestra and starts being visted by spirits. This was a story that moved me and I wanted to see how I could make it more modern and accessible to today’s vibes and sounds!
This was composed, written and performed by Riel.
